Memories of Adventures in Barbados.

Not very often does one run across actual adventurers who have a fearless spirit of adventure and an endearing sense of joy. This was Rex Wotton, a sailor, climber, scuba diver, and a great sport.  Together with his parents, Les and Muriel, Rex Wotton ran the West Coast Watersports center at Coral Reef hotel. It was just a short walk from Settlers Beach. They took hotel guest diving and on sailing tours around the coast. He was an expert seafarer trained by the Royal Merchant Navy in all matters of navigation, and marine work. Rex Wotton was just one of the most unforgettable Rogues of Barbados. He had an infectious sense of fun and used it to win over every situation.

He was a powerful high-energy figure at 5 feet 8 inches, well built, with untidy, light-brown hair and piercing blue eyes. Not one for formal exercises; he did not run, jog, push weights, or do any approved gym. Hard work, dynamic play, and operating the West Coast water was his physical exercise. He sailed, instructed scuba diving, and was always busy taking care of boats, engines, and gear. He ferried people, food, drinks, and scuba gear, from hotels to oceans and had a full schedule of on-the-job workouts. The scuba tanks were heavy, and it was a high-impact sport to load 20 tanks into the old VW van. They had to be unpacked and stacked in the dive shop and later strapped onto guests for the deep dives and shallow water instructions. He was not often still.
