Memories of Barbados Adventures.

Here is a hilarious tale of an outrageous and balmy man who had a great sense of adventure and an outlandish spirit of fun.  Together with his parents, Les and Muriel, Rex Wotton ran the West Coast Watersports center at Coral Reef hotel. It was only a short walk from Settlers Beach. The center took hotel guest diving and on sailing tours along the coast. He was a professional seafarer trained by the Royal Merchant Navy in ship navigation, and marine work. Rex Wotton was just one of the most unforgettable Rogues of Barbados. His spirit of fun and sharp wit enveloped every scenario. Rex was independent at an early age and often disappeared for days at a time, camping by Joes' river . He built campfires from coconut husk and twigs and cooked his catch with breadfruit, wild okras, plantain, and edible vines. He ate mangoes, and local berries like fat pork, and sea grapes, that grow along the beach.

He was a powerful high-energy figure at 5 feet 8 inches, well built, with untidy, light-brown hair and piercing blue eyes. Not one for formal exercises; he did not run, jog, push weights, or do any prescribed gym. Hard work, dynamic play, and running the West Coast water was his workout. He sailed, taught scuba diving, and was always busy repairing boats, engines, and gear. He chauffeured people, food, drinks, and scuba gear, from hotels to oceans and had a full schedule of on-the-job workouts. The scuba tanks were weighty, and it was a high-impact sport to pile 20 tanks into the old VW van. They had to be unloaded and piled in the dive shop and later strapped onto guests for the deep dives and shallow water instructions. He was hardly ever still.
