PTFE - Polytetrafluoroethylene product PTFE (TFE) and also Kynar manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar which is mined in Mongolia and China. The worldwide interest in this mineral has grown significantly, and also the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high temperature resistance, excellent chemical resistance and very low co-efficient of friction (slippery) and is used within tons of applications from non-stick fry kitchenware to ptfe tape for use at home. This particular mineral is the key raw materials within the manufacturing of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and several refrigerants. This escalating demand mixed with shortage of raw materials is mainly responsible for a dramatic price increase (almost double over the past year), shortages, and we expect these two factors to continue in the near future.
